Michael Cohen has over 10 years of experience in the field of chaplaincy and pastoral care. Their most recent position was as the Director of Rabbinical Services and Pastoral Care at The Legacy Senior Communities since August 2019. Prior to that, they worked at the VA North Texas Health Care System as a Chaplain, ACPE Certified Educator, and Rabbi from May 2016 to March 2019. Michael also held the role of ACPE Supervisor, Chaplain, and Rabbi at the same organization during the same time period. Before that, Michael worked at VITAS Healthcare as an ACPE Associate Supervisor, Rabbi/Chaplain from November 2015 to May 2016. Michael also has experience as a Chaplain, Supervisory Candidate, and Rabbi at VITAS Innovative Hospice Care from October 2011 to November 2015. Their earlier experience includes working as a Rabbi/Chaplain at HealthCare Chaplaincy from August 2009 to August 2011.
Michael Cohen received their undergraduate education at Harvard University from 1978 to 1983, earning an A.B. degree in East Asian Studies. Later, from 2003 to 2008, they attended the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in Newton, MA, where they obtained a Master's degree and ordination in Jewish Studies. Additionally, Cohen holds two additional certifications: they became an A.C.P.E. Certified Educator from the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education in May 2017, and obtained the title of Facilitator from the Respecting Choices Advance Care Planning institution in February 2016.
