Luca Muscariello

Technical Project Lead at The Linux Foundation

Luca Muscariello has over 20 years of work experience in the field of networking and communication sciences. Luca is currently working as a Principal Engineer at Cisco since 2016, where they focus on trend spotting web3 technologies and product incubation. Additionally, they are an Engineering Leader involved in internal incubation on the optimization of real-time applications with edge computing.

Prior to their current role, Luca worked as a Technical Project Lead at The Linux Foundation starting in 2018. In this position, they served as the project technical lead for the Hybrid-ICN incubation in the Linux Foundation project Fast Data (fd.io), leading the implementation of a high-speed transport and network stack out of kernel and a portable stack for end devices.

From 2014 to 2020, Luca worked at IRT SystemX as a Research Associate and headed the "Network Architectures" project. Luca was also a permanent member at the Laboratory of Information, Networking, and Communication Sciences (LINCS) during the same period.

Prior to joining IRT SystemX and LINCS, Luca worked at Orange Labs Networks from 2006 to 2016. During this time, they held various roles including Senior Research Scientist and Researcher, where they focused on network optimization, support for FTTH Gbps Speed tests and home routers QoS optimization, and research on wired and wireless networks.

Luca also has experience working as a Visiting Scientist at Bell Laboratories in 2011, a Post Doc at France Télécom R&D in 2006, and a Visiting PhD Student at VTT Technical Research Center of Finland in 2005 and France Telecom R&D in 2004.

Overall, Luca Muscariello has a diverse range of work experience in research, technical leadership, and project management, with a strong focus on networking and communication technologies.

Luca Muscariello holds a PhD in Computer Science and Telecommunications from Politecnico di Torino, which they obtained between the years 2003 and 2006. Prior to that, they completed a Laurea (Master equivalent) in Telecommunication from the same institution, graduating from 1997 to 2002. Luca also holds a Laurea Degree (Master of Science) in Telecommunications Engineering, which they accomplished during the same period at Politecnico di Torino.

Additionally, Luca has obtained certifications in the field. In February 2022, they received the FD.io 5-Year Community Contributor certification and the FD.io Committer certification from The Linux Foundation.
