Systems Operations Engineer at The Linux Foundation

Ryan Day has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of technology. Ryan began their career in 1995 at Intel Corporation as a Senior System Programmer, where they maintained AIX servers and designed and administered web pages. In 1996, they joined Oregon Graduate Institute as the Lead System Administrator, where they maintained Unix servers and advised researchers on security projects.

In 1999, Ryan held the role of Unix System Administrator at Harvard School of Public Health, where they maintained Solaris servers for faculty and staff. Ryan then worked as the Manager of Web Technology at The Christian Science Monitor, where they provided technical expertise for an international news website and implemented an XML-based publishing system.

From 2003 to 2004, Ryan worked at Synergy Seven as a Network Tester. In 2004, they joined the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission as a Software Engineer, where they developed and maintained a website for fish movement data.

In 2010, Ryan became an IT Specialist at USGS, working as a sole developer to create software for analysis of seismic and strainmeter data. In 2011, they joined NWEA as a Senior Reliability Engineer, analyzing application and infrastructure and implementing solutions to improve reliability and reduce downtime.

Since 2013, Ryan has been working at The Linux Foundation as a Systems Operations Engineer, performing system administration duties, providing support, and conducting audits and best practice reviews.

In addition to their employment, Ryan has also worked as an Independent Java Contractor from 2005 to 2006. Their experience includes working with various technologies such as Java, Perl, Solaris, Redhat, Apache, and LDAP.

Ryan Day attended Principia College from 1983 to 1987, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science. In terms of certifications, they obtained the RHCE certification from Redhat in both 2000 and 2012. Additionally, they obtained the Certified System Administrator certification from The Linux Foundation in 2014. Lastly, they obtained the Puppet Certified Professional certification from Puppet Labs, Inc. in October 2015.
