Nabiha Syed

Nabiha Syed has a diverse and extensive work experience. Nabiha is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of The Markup since April 2022 and had previously taken on the role of President in August 2019. Before joining The Markup, they worked as a Research Fellow at Yale Law School, where they focused on research projects related to journalist security/anti-harassment measures and new newsgathering tools. At Yale, they also co-founded the Media Freedom and Information Access legal clinic in 2009. Nabiha also served as a Nonresident Fellow at Stanford University's Center for Internet and Society. Nabiha gained further legal experience at BuzzFeed as Vice President and Associate General Counsel from an unspecified start date until March 2019. Prior to that, they worked as an Associate at Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz. Nabiha also served as a First Amendment Fellow at The New York Times and worked as a Consultant at The World Bank. Nabiha's early experience includes working as a Research Associate at Grameen Foundation.
