Patrick Downes

Environmental Scientist at The Metals Company

Patrick holds a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry from the University of Bristol and the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, where he is a visiting postdoctoral research fellow. Patrick is an experienced marine researcher whose Doctoral research formed part of the UK’s flagship Changing Arctic Programme where he studied the effects of changing sea ice conditions on organic carbon cycling in the Arctic Ocean, chapters of which have now been published as research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Patrick has participated in several offshore research expeditions and also brings expertise in molecular ecology, microbiology, and remote sensing, among other areas. Prior to his PhD, Patrick completed an MSc. at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, where he participated in a research cruise to the oligotrophic South Pacific gyre to investigate pelagic phosphorous cycling.
