John Coonrod

Founder And US Board Chair at The Movement for Community-led Development

John Coonrod has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. John started their career at Princeton Plasma Physics Lab as a Research Associate from 1978 to 1985. In 1977, they joined The Hunger Project as a VP, eventually becoming the Vice President of Strategy and Impact until 2010. From 2010 to 2024, they served as the Executive Vice President and Special Advisor at The Hunger Project. In 2015, they co-founded The Movement for Community-led Development, where they have been the Founder and US Board Chair since then. In 2019, they also took on the role of Board Chair at Sarvodaya USA. Overall, John Coonrod has held leadership positions in various organizations, focusing on community development and impact.

John Coonrod earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Stanford University from 1969 to 1973. John later pursued their Master of Science and PhD degrees in Physics at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1973 to 1978.
