Perry Mathewes

Deputy Director, Museum Operations & Director of Gardens at The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

Perry Mathewes has a diverse work experience in the museum and garden industry. Perry started their career in 1987 as an Assistant Manager at the Virginia Historical Society and later became the Superintendent of Landscape at Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens in 1996. In 2003, they worked as an Education Program Manager at Norfolk Botanical Garden until 2013. Since 2013, Perry has been associated with the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, starting as the Director of Gardens and then being promoted to the role of Deputy Director, Museum Operations & Director of Gardens. In this position, they oversee the development of the museum's gardens, manages horticultural initiatives, coordinates educational programming, and research. Perry's work experience also includes a role at the Museum of the Southwest in exhibitions.

Perry Mathewes attended Davidson College from 1983 to 1987, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
