Michael O'Leary has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and leadership roles. Michael is currently serving as the President & Chief Executive Officer at the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) since April 2023. Prior to this, from January 2020 to April 2023, they worked as the Senior Vice President Government Affairs at the Entertainment Software Association.
From June 2017 to June 2019, O'Leary held the position of Senior Vice President, Global Public Affairs and Policy at 21st Century Fox, where they led the company's global advocacy efforts and collaborated with an international team to protect its entertainment content.
Before that, O'Leary founded their own consulting firm, O'Leary Global Solutions, LLC, in 2015. Michael worked as the Principal and used a comprehensive approach to represent and promote the strategic, policy, and marketplace priorities of various clients.
From May 2005 to July 2014, O'Leary served as Senior Executive Vice President, Global Policy and External Affairs at the Motion Picture Association of America. Michael managed the organization's global policy program and oversaw operations in multiple locations worldwide.
Prior to that, O'Leary gained valuable experience in intellectual property law enforcement as the Deputy Chief of the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section at the U.S. Department of Justice from July 1998 to May 2005. Michael supervised a team responsible for enforcing federal criminal intellectual property laws and successfully prosecuted numerous complex cases.
Beginning their career in 1993, O'Leary worked as Chief Counsel for the Committee on the Judiciary in the United States Senate for five years. Michael provided judiciary counsel to several senators and served as the Chief Counsel to the Subcommittee on Constitution.
Before their role in the Senate, O'Leary worked as an attorney at Tiffany and Hoffman from July 1992 to June 1993.
Michael O'Leary began their education in 1985 by enrolling at Arizona State University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies. Michael dedicated four years to their undergraduate studies, completing their degree in 1989. Following this, O'Leary attended the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, from 1989 to 1992. During this period, they pursued a Juris Doctor degree, specializing in the field of Law.
