Freshwater Science Technical Lead at The Nature Conservancy

Douglas Nyolei has a diverse work experience in the field of water resources and management. Douglas currently works as the Freshwater Science Technical Lead at both The Nature Conservancy and the Nature for Water Facility, where they manage science project workstreams and applies hydrological modeling and spatial analytical tools. Prior to these roles, Douglas worked as a Research Fellow at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, conducting research on water science and engineering. Douglas has also held various consultancy positions, including as a Land and Water Resources Specialist and Water Resources Engineer at #ONO (Open to New Opportunities), and as a Land and Water Management Specialist at World Agroforestry. Additionally, Douglas has worked as an Assistant Project Officer/Water Resources Engineer at Nile Basin Initiative/NELSAP, a Research Fellow at UNESCO-IHE, and an Associate Program Officer/GIS-RS analyst at World Agroforestry. Douglas has extensive experience in data analysis, mapping, and reporting related to water and land management.

Douglas Nyolei is an individual with a strong academic background in water resources engineering and management. Douglas completed their Doctor of Engineering Sciences (PhD) in Hydrology and Water Resources Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussel from 2017 to 2021. Prior to that, they obtained an MSc in Water Resources Engineering from KU Leuven between 2010 and 2012. Their undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Nairobi from 2002 to 2007, where they earned a Bsc Eng. in Environmental and Biosystems Engineering. Additionally, Douglas Nyolei holds the certification of Graduate Engineer from the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) since December 2021.
