Nichole Barger

Executive Vice President, Science at The Nature Conservancy

Nichole Barger serves as the UNCCD Science Policy Interface Special Advisor for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification since February 2020, where responsibilities include advising on strategic priorities and contributing to reports and deliverables. Barger also holds the position of UNCCD Co-Chair for the Science Policy Interface while functioning as Deputy Chief Scientist and Lead Global Scientist at The Nature Conservancy since May 2015, in addition to serving as the Acting Director of Science for the Utah Chapter and Research Director of the Canyonlands Research Center. Barger has been involved with the University of Colorado Boulder as a Professor Emerita since August 2007, having held various academic titles throughout the years. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Ecology from Colorado State University and a Master’s degree in Ecology from the University of California, Berkeley, along with a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from The Evergreen State College.
