Charles Salter has a diverse work experience spanning over several organizations and roles. Charles most recently served as the President & Chief Executive Officer of The News Literacy Project since July 2022. Prior to that, they were the President & Chief Operating Officer at The News Literacy Project from January 2018 to July 2022. Charles also has experience as the President & Chief Operating Officer at BUILD, where they played a key role in driving strategic growth initiatives from May 2013 to January 2018. Additionally, they worked as the Regional Vice President & Superintendent of Schools at Lighthouse Academies, Inc. and as the Executive Director at Bay Area After-School All-Stars. Charles also held leadership positions at The Nevada Community Foundation and Teach for America. Charles'searlier experience includes roles as a School Director, Co-President of Ravenswood Teachers Association, and as a teacher at Ravenswood City School District and Costaño School.

Charles Salter has a diverse education history. In 1993, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and German from Susquehanna University, where they studied from 1993 to 1997. Following this, from 2000 to 2003, they attended Indiana University Maurer School of Law, obtaining their Doctor of Law degree. In 2003, they furthered their education by obtaining a Graduate Certificate in Non-profit Management from Indiana University Indianapolis, School of Public & Environmental Affairs, where they studied for a year. In 2011 to 2012, they pursued a Graduate Certificate in Business from Ball State University - Miller College of Business. Continuing their education, Charles obtained a Graduate Certificate in Change Leadership from Cornell University, School of Industrial & Labor Relations, studying there from 2014 to 2015. Finally, in the year 2021, they attended Harvard Business School and earned a Certificate in Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management.
