Michele Legare

Michele Legare has extensive experience in radiation safety and health physics, currently serving as the Director and Corporate Radiation and Laser Safety Officer at The Ottawa Hospital since 1999. In this role, Michele leads a dedicated team of Medical Health Physicists, ensuring safe utilization of radioactive materials and laser devices within the institution while collaborating with regional Health Care Centers. Previously, Michele held the position of Director, Corporate RSO, Emergency Preparedness, where initiatives included developing a radiation safety program and managing emergency preparedness for the hospital. Before joining The Ottawa Hospital, Michele worked at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission as a Health Physicist and Training Evaluation Specialist, earning two President’s Awards. Earlier experience includes evaluating threats to Canada as an Intelligence Specialist with the Department of National Defence. Michele holds a Master’s degree in Health/Medical Physics from McMaster University, a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Ottawa, and certifications in Radon Measurement Professional and Adult Education.
