D. Jack Alkire has a diverse background in journalism and language studies, currently serving as a journalist at The Pantagraph since May 2022, while simultaneously working as a library assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago since January 2017. Alkire's prior experience includes serving as a Cryptologic Technician Interpretive in the US Navy from September 2010 to November 2016, where training and work focused on cryptology and language interpretation, particularly in Russian. Alkire holds a Master's degree in English Education/Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, along with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature and an Associate’s degree in Russian Language and Literature from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.
