The Philadelphia Contributionship
In 1752, Benjamin Franklin joined a group of prominent citizens to establish what is now the oldest successful property and casualty insurance company in the country. He named the company The Philadelphia Contributionship for the Insurance of Houses from Loss by Fire. The "hand-in-hand" fire mark is our historic symbol. An emblem of security, it appeared originally on houses that were insured by The Contributionship, and it signified our firm commitment to "protecting homes and the well-being of people who live in them." Today, the four clasped hands stand as a testimony to our financial strength through two and a half tumultuous centuries. They also symbolize our enduring unity of purpose-to earn the trust and respect of our policyholders with responsive service, reliable products and coverage tailored to their needs.
