John Sawkins is a distinguished academic and leader in the field of economics, currently serving as a Board Member and Trustee at The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education since 2015, and as an ELIR Reviewer for QAA (Scotland). With a long-standing association with Heriot-Watt University since 1995, John has held various positions including Professor of Economics and Deputy Principal, where leadership in global learning and teaching strategy and quality assurance has been paramount. Additional contributions include membership on the UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment and participation in the Teaching Excellence Framework panel for the Office for Students. John's extensive educational background includes a PhD in Economics from The University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Economics from the University of Glasgow.
