George Bruno

SVP & President, Queen’s University Medical Group at The Queen's Medical Center

Rick Bruno, MD is Senior Vice President of Patient Care for The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) and President of the Queen’s University Medical Group (QUMG). In this role, he oversees 450 employed physicians covering 17 sub-specialties and manages the professional service agreements that QHS has with its community physicians.

Dr. Bruno’s leadership was instrumental during QHS’ three-party Affiliation Agreement with The University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine and University Health Partners, an innovative partnership that created QUMG to enhance education and training for the next generation of health care professionals and improve care delivery models for the residents of Hawaii. Under Dr. Bruno’s leadership, QUMG has seen significant growth, increased the number of primary care providers, and recruited numerous specialists as QUMG continues to build and recruit the next generation of providers.

Dr. Bruno began his career at The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC) in 2015 as the Medical Director for the Transfer Call Center. In 2016, he was appointed Associate Chief Medical Officer, becoming responsible for physician credentialing and Medical Staff Services policy administration as well as supporting physician alignment initiatives critical to QMC. Just prior to being appointed President of Queen’s Medical Group (now Queen’s University Medical Group), Dr. Bruno served as a VP for Patient Care overseeing several service lines, including Surgery, ED and Cardiology.

As an emergency room physician, Dr. Bruno continues to work in the emergency department at QMC’s Punchbowl and West O‘ahu campuses. Dr. Bruno is active in the state EMS community and serves as Oahu’s District EMS Medical Director for the State of Hawaii Department of Health. In that role, he oversees the quality programs and offline medical control for Honolulu’s EMS. He also serves as a liaison to the medical community, such as the John A. Burns School of Medicine, community physicians, payers and medical societies, to establish positive and collaborative relationships.

Dr. Bruno received his Doctor of Medicine from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at New York University and Bellevue Hospital. He is certified by the American Board or Emergency Medicine.

In his spare time, Dr. Bruno enjoys watching college football, yoga, hiking the Aiea loop trail, and walking his dog Biscuit.
