Todd Allen

SVP & Chief Quality Officer at The Queen's Medical Center

Todd Allen, MD was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer for The Queen’s Health Systems (QHS) in October 2020.

Under Dr. Allen’s leadership, QHS expanded and strengthened its Center for Quality and Patient Safety to support front-line clinicians more effectively.

Before joining QHS, Dr. Allen served as the Senior Executive Medical Director for Intermountain’s Healthcare Delivery Institute based in Salt Lake City, Utah. There he directed process improvement in clinical medicine, systems research, and teaching in Intermountain’s Advanced Training Programs. He was also the Medical Director of the Emergency Department Development Team which supervised the work of 21 emergency departments across the breadth of Intermountain Healthcare’s hospitals.

Dr. Allen has been involved in research and improvement since 1999 when he was appointed as the first Director of Research for the Department of Emergency Medicine and Division of Trauma at LDS Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center.

In addition to Dr. Allen’s current role at QHS, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Adjunct Track) at the University of Utah School of Medicine and as a Clinical Associate Professor (Affiliated) in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Allen received his Bachelor of Science (chemistry) and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Allen has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and numerous other abstracts.

He is married and a parent to four children who all are blessed to call Hawai‘i their home now.
