Philip O'Brien

Philip O'Brien serves as an Employee Benefits Attorney and Shareholder at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. since January 2005. O'Brien achieved a significant legal victory by winning a decision from the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which confirmed that ERISA multiemployer plans can levy interest and liquidated damages on signatory employers for late contributions to health and pension plans, thereby enhancing the protection of plan participants and reinforcing the authority of fund trustees. Prior to this role, O'Brien was the Attorney and Owner of Benefit Plan Legal Services s.c. from January 2002 to January 2005. O'Brien earned a Juris Doctor degree from Marquette University Law School (1984) and an AB, magna cum laude, in Political Science with a minor in English from Marquette University (1981), along with academic studies in History.
