Birte Harlev-Lam Obe

Birte Harlev-Lam OBE is a highly experienced healthcare professional, currently serving as the Executive Director for Professional Leadership at The Royal College of Midwives (RCM) since July 2017, where the focus is on leading the professional association arm. In addition to this role, Birte serves as a Non-Executive Board Member, overseeing governance and strategy as Chair of the audit and risk committee. As a Trustee of Petals since June 2012 and with previous roles including Clinical Director for Maternity and Children at NHS Improvement, Associate Midwife Director at Monitor, and Head of Maternity and Children's Services at NHS England, Birte has developed and implemented national policies for maternity and children's services. Recognized for contributions to healthcare, Birte has held significant positions across various NHS trusts and holds a Master's degree in Health Law from the University of Hertfordshire.
