Iain Forster-Smith has a diverse and extensive work experience. Iain is currently serving as the Director of Examinations, Education and Faculties at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Assistant Principal of Student Life and Skills at West College Scotland from August 2017 to February 2023. Iain also held the position of Director of Administration at the University of Bath from May 2014 to July 2017. Before that, they worked at the University of Glasgow as the Head of School Administration from January 2011 to May 2014 and as the Head of Institute Administration from October 2009 to December 2010. Iain has also held various roles at the University of Sussex, including Programme Manager, Head of Operations, and Research Officer, from August 2006 to September 2009. Iain started their career as an Operations Manager at Melbourne IT Digital Brand Services from October 2000 to April 2006 and began their professional journey as a Transport Coordinator at LLOYDS ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE MANAGEMENT LIMITED from September 1997 to September 2000.
Iain Forster-Smith has a diverse education history. In 1994, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Environmental Science at Staffordshire University, which they completed in 1997. In 2017, they attended THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF PERSONNEL AND DEVELOPMENT to further their studies in Organisational Design & Development, completing a Level 11 (Scotland) Level 7 (England) degree program. Continuing their educational journey, Iain joined the College Development Network in 2019 to undertake the Preparing for Executive Leadership Programme (PEL), which they completed in 2020. Additionally, in the same year, they engaged in Life Coaching studies at Skills Success.
