Rupert Lewis

Chief Science Policy Officer at The Royal Society

Rupert Lewis has a diverse work experience spanning various sectors and organizations. Their most recent position was as the Chief Science Policy Officer at The Royal Society, where they worked towards improving the use of science by policy makers. Prior to that, they served as the Director of the Government Office for Science. Rupert has also held roles at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Defra, and BIS - Government Office for Science. Additionally, they have worked in aquaculture start-up and held research positions at the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Hong Kong.

Rupert Lewis began their education at Oakham School from 1975 to 1982. After completing their schooling, they enrolled at the University of Liverpool, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from 1983 to 1986. Following their undergraduate studies, Rupert continued their education at the same institution and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Molecular Genetics from 1987 to 1992. In addition to their academic qualifications, Rupert also holds a distinction in the IoD Certificate in Company Direction, which they earned from The Institute of Directors.
