Mia Cerfonteyn is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in marine biology and environmental communication. As the Communications Manager at The Sainsbury Laboratory since February 2021, Mia leverages expertise gained from previous roles, including a researcher at Matís Iceland, where research focused on the diversity and dynamics of marine phytoplankton around Iceland. Prior experiences include serving as a Marine Mammal Observer on seismic surveying vessels for CapMarine and Geoguide along the African coast, and working as a Bioprosthetic Leaflet Technologist at Strait Access Technologies. Mia's early career featured a seabird research assistant position with the South African National Antarctic Program on Marion Island and an office assistant role with Urban Dynamics Western Cape Town. Mia holds a Master of Science in Zoology/Animal Biology from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Zoology and Botany from Stellenbosch University.
