Mike Barnell has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Mike began their career in 2003 as an Asset Rehabilitation Technician at Southern Water. In 2005, they joined Ashdown Site Investigation Ltd as a Ground Investigation Site Engineer, and later transitioned to the role of Geo Environmental Consultant from 2006 to 2010. In 2011, they worked as a Freelance CQA Engineer at WYG Group, and then moved to Torus Environmental Ltd in 2012 for the same role. In the same year, they joined The Sirius Group as a Geoenvironmental Engineer, and gradually progressed to Resident Engineer, Senior Resident Engineer, Contract Manager, Regional Contract Manager, and currently serves as the Contracts Director.
Mike Barnell attended the University of Sussex from 2000 to 2003, where they obtained a BSc in Environmental Science & Geography. Mike then pursued part-time modules of a Civil Engineering degree at the University of Brighton from 2005 to 2007, focusing on Soil Mechanics and Geomechanics. In 2015 to 2016, they attended the University of Leeds for a Civil Law and Contract Management ICE Short Course. In addition to their educational background, Mike holds certifications in CSCS, SHEA (Gas), and SMSTS from institutions such as EUSR and CITB.
