Maël Gourmelen

Maël Gourmelen has gained extensive work experience in the animation industry. Maël started their career at American Empirical Pictures as a Freelance Character Animator in 2016. Maël then joined Illumination Mac Guff in 2017 as a Character Designer and later worked as a Story Artist from 2021 to 2022. In 2018, they worked as an Animation Senior at The SPA Studios (Sergio Pablos Animation) for over a year. Maël also contributed their skills as a Visual Development Artist (Character Design) and 2D Character Animator at Cinesite from 2019 to 2020, and as a 2D Character Animation Supervisor at Moving Picture Company from 2020 to 2021. Maël briefly worked as a Visual Development Artist at DreamWorks Animation in 2022 before joining The SPA Studios (Sergio Pablos Animation) as an Animation Supervisor. In addition to their roles in various studios, Maël has also served as an Animation Instructor at GOBELINS, l'école de l'image in 2017 and was a member of the Annie Awards Judging committee for Character Animation at ASIFA-HOLLYWOOD ANIMATION AID FOUNDATION in the same year.

Maël Gourmelen began their education in 2002 at École Brassart, where they studied Design and Visual Communications, General. Maël attended this school until 2005. Following this, they enrolled in GOBELINS Paris in 2005 and completed their studies in 2008. At GOBELINS Paris, they pursued a degree in Concepteur et réalisateur de films d'animation, focusing on film direction and animation.
