Desmond Gukwe

Desmond Gukwe has a diverse work experience starting from 2016. Desmond worked as a Mathematics Tutor at both Eagle Pride and the University of the Western Cape from 2016 to 2017. In 2017, they joined impact.com as an Ad Fraud Data Analyst and later became an Operational & Ad Fraud Data Analyst (BI Analyst). From 2019 to 2021, Desmond worked at 22seven: Boss Your Money as a Junior Data Scientist and then as a Data Scientist, where they focused on creating customer retention and churn KPIs, customer segmentation, machine learning investigations, and creating dashboards using tools like AWS Redshift, R, Python, and Tableau. Following that, they worked at Debtline as a Data & Business Intelligence Specialist, where they built automated reports and generated insights for the business. In 2022, Desmond joined Abound as an Analytics Engineer, where they worked on various projects related to ETL, building dashboards, and data transformation using tools like Dbt, fivetran, segment, Mode, Airtable, Supermetrics, and Redshift. Currently, Desmond is working as a Business Intelligence Lead at The Student Hub Online, where they take full ownership of Business Intelligence projects and performs detailed analysis of data sources.

From 2017 to 2018, Desmond attended the University of the Western Cape and obtained a Post Grade Diploma in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, with a focus on Data Science.

From 2014 to 2016, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Mathematical and Statistical Science at the University of the Western Cape.

In the earlier years, from 2009 to 2013, Desmond attended Kwamfundo Secondary School, where they completed their matriculation.

In addition to their formal education, Desmond also acquired various certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. In September 2022, they obtained the "dbt Fundamentals" certification from dbt Labs. In July 2022, they completed the "Analytics Engineering Bootcamp (Using DBT & Google Cloud Platform (Big Query))" and "Complete DBT Bootcamp (From Zero to Hero)" courses from Udemy. In May 2020, Desmond obtained the "Deploying Models" certification from Udemy. Furthermore, in August 2019, they completed the "Advanced SQL for Data Scientists" course from LinkedIn, and in June 2018, they obtained the "SQL: Data Reporting and Analysis" certification from Lynda.com. Finally, in February 2016, Desmond received the "SAS Programming" certification from SAS.
