Kristel Komakhuk has served as Chairwoman of the Tatitlek Corporation since 2018, as well as serving on boards for its subsidiaries Tatitlek Support Services, Inc.; Tatitlek Response Service, Inc.; Copper Mountain Foundation; and the Tatitlek Settlement Trust. Kristel was born and raised in Anchorage. Her family is from Tatitlek and the Nome area.
Kristel brings a background of making positive, meaningful impacts in our communities by bridging projects and campaigns with stakeholders in the nonprofit world, the oil industry and, more recently, the health sector.
She is currently employed at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium as Senior Liaison for Development and External Relationships. Kristel is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and serving as a liaison with external organizations and entities. Prior to joining the Consortium, she was employed at Shell Exploration & Production Company as an External Relations Advisor on its stakeholder-management team, interfacing with stakeholders and identifying and mitigating non-technical risks. She has also worked as Development Director at First Alaskans Institute, a statewide Alaska Native nonprofit, where she led and managed diversified relationships, along with a sustainable funding stream.
Among her achievements, Kristel was honored by the Alaska Journal of Commerce as a 2012 Top Forty under 40 recipient. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on marketing from the University of Alaska Anchorage. She is the proud mother of a teenage son, Alex.
Kristel is humbled and honored to serve on the Tatitlek Board. She strives to contribute to the success of the corporation so that her grandchildren and future generations have the opportunity to benefit from all that the corporation has to offer, including scholarships and career opportunities.
