Sarah Rae has a strong work experience in the media industry. Sarah is currently the Head of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at The Telegraph. Prior to that, they served as a Board Trustee at Brixton Finishing School. Sarah also worked at BBC News as a Development Manager from 2018 to 2021 and as a Development Project Coordinator from 2015 to 2017. Sarah gained experience in audience research as an Audience Researcher at BBC and as a Researcher for The 7.30 Show at Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Sarah began their career at MTV UK, Northern & Eastern Europe, where they worked in the Social Responsibility Team.

Sarah Rae attended Peebles High School from 2001 to 2008. Sarah then pursued higher education at the University of Glasgow from 2008 to 2012, earning a degree in Politics with a field of study in social sciences. In 2010, they also had the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student at the University of Miami, focusing on Political Science.
