Brian Freskos

Brian Freskos is an experienced journalist specializing in investigative reporting, currently serving as News Editor at The Trace since October 2023. Previously, Brian worked as a Senior Researcher and Data Analyst at the Conflict Awareness Project, focusing on arms trafficking and conflict-related criminal activities from March 2022 to October 2023. Brian's earlier roles include Staff Writer at The Trace from June 2016 to March 2022, where coverage focused on gun violence in the U.S., and a Fellowship at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism. Additional experience includes editorial contributions at the Carolina Alumni Review, research at the Institute for Southern Studies, and reporting in various capacities at The Daily Tar Heel and StarNews Media. Brian holds a Master’s Degree in Investigative Journalism from Columbia University and a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina, where honors included Highest Distinction and Highest Honors.
