Ellen McKinney

Ellen McKinney is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design at The University of Alabama since January 2023, focusing on soft-goods design research and expertise in apparel design. Previously at Iowa State University, Ellen held several positions, including Co-Program Director for the Apparel, Merchandising and Design program, where collaborative curriculum development occurred, and Associate Professor of Apparel Design, leading strategic planning. Experience also includes a Fulbright Scholar stint in Japan for research on textile heritage, and roles as an instructor and consultant in various institutions, contributing significantly to garment sizing, fit, and education in fashion design. Ellen has earned a Ph.D. in Fashion Design from the University of Minnesota.
