Sharlene Newman is an accomplished academic and researcher currently serving as the Executive Director of the Alabama Life Research Institute and as a Professor in the Department of Psychology at The University of Alabama since October 2019. Previously, Sharlene held various esteemed positions at Indiana University from August 2004 to May 2020, including Professor, Director of the Program in Neuroscience, Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and Director of the Imaging Research Facility. Sharlene began her career as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Carnegie Mellon University from August 1999 to July 2004. Educationally, Sharlene earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University.
