Mary Lou Gutierrez, PhD, is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive experience in public health, chronic disease prevention, and health disparities. Currently serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at both Walden University and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center since October 2013, Mary Lou contributes to graduate programs and serves on dissertation committees, bringing expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods. Previous roles include Scientific Mentor and Dissertation Coach, Assistant Director of Research at Youth Villages, and Assistant Professor at the University of Memphis. Notable past positions also encompass senior research roles at Jackson State University, where Mary Lou contributed to significant research projects, including the Jackson Heart Study. Mary Lou holds a PhD from The Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and a BA in Psychology from UCLA.
