Jo McDonald is a highly experienced professional in cultural heritage management and rock art research, currently serving as the Director of the UWA Centre for Rock Art Research + Management at The University of Western Australia since January 2012. Responsibilities include managing a team of five researchers and collaborating with Aboriginal communities on rock art management in regions such as the Western Desert, Pilbara, and Great Basin USA. Previous roles include serving as a Director and Future Fellow at the Australian Research Council from July 2011 to June 2017, focusing on the Western Desert and Great Basin, and directing Jo McDonald Cultural Heritage Management Pty Ltd from June 1995 to June 2011. Earlier experience includes directing Brayshaw McDonald Pty Ltd (1986-1994) specializing in Indigenous cultural resource management, and completing a PhD in Australian Archaeology at the Australian National University between 1987 and 1994, as well as earning a BA (Hons) in Anthropology and Archaeology from the University of Sydney (1979-1982).
