David Groves

Council Member at The University of Wollongong

Mr David Groves, B.Com, M.Com, CA, FAICD, was one of the first graduates to accept his degree from the newly independent University of Wollongong in 1976. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce and became a chartered accountant, working for a major international accounting firm.

David is a former executive of Macquarie Bank Limited and its antecedent, Hill Samuel Australia.

Since 1990, he has been involved in the management of his own business affairs and various directorships of public and private companies. He has been a non-executive director of a number of companies including GrainCorp Ltd for 15 years from 1994, and served as Deputy Chairman at EQT Holdings Limited during his tenure there between 2000 and 2015.

Currently, David is Chairman of Tasman Sea Salt Pty Ltd and DECK Investments Pty Ltd. He is also a director of Pengana Capital Group Ltd, the listed investment company Pengana International Equities Ltd, the Redcape Hotel Group and Pipers Brook Vineyard Pty Ltd.

David was a member of the board of Kambala, a leading girls’ school in Sydney, for 12 years and has served on the board of the Intensive Care Foundation of Australia and New Zealand and the Advisory Board of the Australian Rugby Foundation.
