Michelle Ye Hee Lee

Michelle Ye Hee Lee is an accomplished journalist currently serving as the Tokyo/Seoul Bureau Chief for The Washington Post since November 2014, where coverage encompasses Japan, North Korea, South Korea, and Northeast regional security, with a focus on foreign policy, security, domestic politics, climate, social issues, and breaking news events. Previously, roles at The Washington Post included reporting on Northeast Asia diplomacy, national security, and contributing to the Fact Checker column. In addition, Michelle held the presidency of the Asian American Journalists Association from January 2019 to December 2022, managing a professional non-profit with over 2,000 members. Earlier experience includes government accountability reporting for The Arizona Republic and internships at the Chicago Tribune, Creative Loafing, and Pacific Daily News. Michelle earned a B.A. in International Studies and English from Emory University.
