John Swartz

John Swartz, Ph.D., is a seasoned research scientist currently serving as Research Scientist III and Supervisory Program Lead at The Water Institute since January 2021, where expertise in earth systems and climate impacts supports various initiatives for the Department of Interior Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. Prior experience includes roles at the Texas General Land Office as a Coastal Master Plan Technical Advisory Committee Member, and as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Colorado Boulder. Academic contributions as a postdoctoral researcher at both Boise State University and The University of Texas at Austin focused on the implications of global change on river systems and coastal environments, with notable achievements in cloud-based geospatial analyses. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Geological and Earth Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin, along with an MS in Geophysics and a BS in Geology, Chemistry, and GIS from the University of Pittsburgh.
