Maureen Murugi Smith

Maureen Murugi Smith is an experienced professional with a background in immigrant and refugee services, community development, and social assistance. Currently serving as the Immigrant Leadership Institute Program Manager at The Welcoming Center since January 2020, Maureen focuses on supporting immigrant and refugee integration and civic engagement through leadership training. Previous roles include Community Resource Developer at Bethany Christian Services, where Maureen facilitated the resettlement of unaccompanied refugee minors, and various positions at UNHCR dedicated to community services and child protection. Maureen's early career included research and enterprise development roles with Daystar University and UNDP Kenya, respectively. Maureen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Community Development and Psychology from Daystar University.
