Alicia Sprague

As the Grants Specialist, Alicia supports Xerces' portfolio of grants from government agencies and foundations. Within this portfolio, she facilitates all aspects of the grant fundraising process, from identifying prospects to proposal development and submission, grant administration, funder acknowledgement, and reporting.

Obsessed with insects and other invertebrates from a young age, Alicia fueled her passion by studying environmental communication and entomology at Colorado State University and incorporating bugs into every job she possibly could. Some of her past roles have included: assisting with research on elk contraception in Rocky Mountain National Park; teaching K-12 students about the wonders of invertebrates at the Butterfly Pavilion in Denver; coordinating diversity education and training programs at Colorado State University; and serving as an independent living advocate for people experiencing disabilities. She and her husband moved to Sitka, Alaska in 2022 and fell head over heels in love with this small town in a rainforest by the sea.
