Genetta Adams

Genetta Adams serves as the Managing Editor of Opinion at theGrio since December 2021, bringing a wealth of experience in editorial roles within notable media organizations. Previously, Adams was the Managing Editor at The Root from September 2011 to November 2021, where responsibilities included editing and writing stories for a predominantly African-American audience. A freelance editor at Brooklyn from August 2009 to March 2014, Adams contributed to the documentary "Power and Control: Domestic Violence in America." Additional roles include Lecturing in the Journalism Department's News Literacy program at Stony Brook University, Entertainment Editor at the Associated Press, and Assistant Managing Editor at Newsday, overseeing multiple editorial teams. Adams began a career as Lifestyles Editor at News-Press. Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from UC San Diego and further training at Manhattan Edit Workshop.
