Alyona Medelyan

Alyona Medelyan is the co-founder and CEO of Thematic, a Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning consultancy. Alyona started their career as a software engineering intern at Google, followed by a visiting researcher position at the European Media Laboratory. In 2009, they became the Chief Research Officer (CRO) of Pingar, leading a team of 10 software developers and researchers. During their time at Pingar, they oversaw the development of Text Analytics API, an enterprise software library for analysing unstructured text in a variety of languages, and two apps for the Microsoft Office Store. In 2013, they founded Entopix, where they served as CEO until 2015. Customers in US, UK and New Zealand such as Cisco, Sonian, Wine-Searcher, Advertise.com, ThisData, Hapara, Wise.io. Her specialties include semantic analysis, improving search, development of chat bots, mining forum data, text categorization and summarization.

Alyona Medelyan attended Y Combinator and earned a Type: S17. Alyona then went on to earn their PhD in Computer Science from The University of Waikato. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Computer Science from The University of Waikato.
