R. Alta Charo

R. Alta Charo serves as Principal at Alta Charo Consulting, LLC, since February 2022, specializing in biotechnology policy, regulatory pathways, and ethics across medical, environmental, and industrial sectors, with significant expertise in stem cell policy and genome editing governance. As an Independent Consultant for Colossal since August 2021, R. Alta Charo advises on regulatory policy and ethics in emerging biotechnology. Additional roles include Co-Chair at BioMADE, focusing on ethics and regulatory policy, and a Professorship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Law & Bioethics. R. Alta Charo has held distinguished positions such as the David A. Hamburg Distinguished Fellow at the Nuclear Threat Initiative and a Senior Policy Advisor at the US Food and Drug Administration. Education includes a JD from Columbia Law School and multiple bachelor’s degrees in Biology from Harvard University.
