Julia Damerow has extensive work experience in scientific software engineering and development. Julia currently works at Arizona State University as a Lead Scientific Software Engineer since July 2021. Prior to that, they held the position of Scientific Software Engineer at the same university from March 2015 to July 2021. Julia also has experience in consulting, where they worked as a Partner at A Place Called Up Consulting since July 2015. In addition, they worked as a Lead Software Engineer at Control Technology Solutions, Inc. from August 2014 to December 2015.
Before their current roles, Julia held positions at Digital Innovation Group - Arizona State University as the Head of Development from January 2013 to July 2014. Julia also worked at Arizona State University as a PhD Candidate from August 2009 to July 2014, focusing on research in computer science and applying machine learning tools and computation to problems in digital and computational history and philosophy of science.
Prior to their academic work, Julia worked as a Java Software Developer at Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, where they developed an open-source desktop application called Virtual Spaces MWN. Julia Damerow completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computational/Digital History and Philosophy of Science from Arizona State University, where they studied from 2009 to 2014. Prior to that, they earned a Diplom (FH) in Computer Science (Media Informatics) with emphasis on Software Engineering from Berlin University of Applied Sciences Berlin (BHT) between 2004 and 2008.
