Mike Sowa

Mike Sowa has a diverse work experience that includes roles in both the private sector and the US Navy. Mike started their career in the US Navy in 1997 as the Chief Engineering Officer of a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, where they led a team and oversaw all aspects of nuclear reactor and propulsion plant operations and training. Mike then transitioned to the role of Deputy Shipyard Representative and Executive Officer at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where they supervised shipyard and submarine crews' schedule and budget performance for 8 nuclear-powered submarines.

After leaving the Navy, Mike joined Tillamook County Creamery Association in 2011 as the Maintenance Manager for a dairy processing plant with two cheese production lines. Mike later became the Whey Plant Manager, responsible for the commissioning and startup of a new whey protein concentrate and lactose drying plant. Currently, they hold the position of Engineering Manager, where they oversee procedures and transitions from construction to commercial operation of the dairy processing facility. Throughout their roles at Tillamook, Mike has been involved in design activities and construction oversight of various projects.

Mike Sowa completed their undergraduate education from 1984 to 1989 at Oregon State University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Nuclear Engineering.
