Alessandro Garufo received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in telecommunication engineering from the University of Siena, Siena, Italy, in 2007 and 2012, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in applied electromagnetism and THz technology from the Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, in 2017.
From 2011 until 2012, he was an intern with the Antenna Group of Thales Alenia Space, Rome, Italy, where he developed his M.Sc. degree thesis. In 2012, he was a Researcher with the Applied Electromagnetic Laboratory (LEA) of University of Siena, Siena, Italy. From 2012 to 2018, he was with the THz Sensing Group, Microelectronics Department, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, as a Ph.D. Researcher and thereafter as a Postdoctoral Researcher. From 2013 until 2014, he was a Visiting Scholar with the Metamaterials and Plasmonics Research Laboratory of University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, USA. Since 2018, he has been with Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), The Hague, The Netherlands as Scientist in the Antenna group of the Radar Technology Department, TNO Defense, Security and Safety. He is IEEE senior member, and EurAAP member.
His research interests are integrated antennas, dielectric lens antennas, phased array antennas with emphasis at THz frequencies based on photoconductive sources, quasi-optical and optical systems for mm- and submm- antenna systems in radar, imaging and telecommunication applications.
