Maria Wiese is a highly experienced scientist currently serving as a Senior Scientist Integrator at TNO in the Department of Microbiology and Systems Biology since May 2021. Previously, Maria worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Leiden University Medical Center from September 2019 to May 2021, focusing on novel solutions against enteropathogenic Clostridia. Additional postdoctoral roles include work at the University of Luxembourg on the microGUT project and at the University of Copenhagen, where Maria contributed to the development of in vitro gut microbial fermentations. An Industrial Postdoc at CP Kelco involved characterizing pectins for piglet nutrition and health in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. Maria's academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from UNSW, supported by various scholarships, including the Australian Postgraduate Award Industry. Early research assistance experiences were conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, where foundational microbiological research was performed.
