Gerard Schmid

Gerard Schmid is an independent technical consultant, engaged in accelerating the path from concept to commercialization since April 2024. Prior experience includes serving as Vice President of Photonics and Chip Integration at Quantum-Si from November 2013 to March 2024, where responsibilities encompassed the commercialization of a single molecule fluorescence biosensor, technology optimization, and chip integration. Additional roles at Quantum-Si included Head of Photonics and Senior Scientist, focusing on technology development and system integration. Consulting experience at Butterfly Network, Inc. involved prototyping CMUT MEMS transducers, while work at GLOBALFOUNDRIES revolved around the implementation of Directed Self-Assembly for CMOS processing. Earlier positions include Senior Template Engineer at Molecular Imprints Inc. and Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Gerard Schmid holds a PhD and MS in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
