Johann van Rooyen

Johann van Rooyen is a seasoned legal and risk management professional with extensive experience in corporate governance. Currently serving as the Group Company Secretary and Risk Executive at Tongaat Hulett since January 2020, Johann has previously held prominent roles, including Group Company Secretary at Illovo Sugar Africa (2016-2019) where responsibilities included governance processes and compliance across multiple African countries. Concurrently, from 2009 to 2016, Johann served as Chief Risk Officer at Illovo Sugar Limited, focusing on risk management and assurance frameworks. Earlier experience includes senior legal advisory roles at Mutual & Federal and Honey Attorneys, where litigation and contract management were key responsibilities. Johann holds an MBA in Management from the University of Wales and a B.Proc in Law from the University of the Free State, with admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa since 1998.
