Bernardt Duvenhage

Bernardt Duvenhage is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in machine learning and research, currently serving as a Machine Learning Mission Specialist at Toptal since April 2020. As the Co-Founder and Head of Research and Development at Pipio, from January 2021 to August 2024, Bernardt contributed to the development of an innovative video creation platform focused on AI-generated content. Previous roles include serving as a Machine Learning Mission Specialist at Feersum Engine, External Examiner at several universities including Stellenbosch University, University of Johannesburg, and University of Pretoria, and leading NLP and Machine Learning initiatives at Helm. From January 2004 to January 2017, Bernardt held various positions at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, culminating as a Research Group Leader in Image Processing. Bernardt earned a PhD in Computer Science with a focus on Computer Graphics from the University of Pretoria, where a Master of Science in Computer Science was also obtained.
