John van Leer is a seasoned mechanical design engineer with extensive experience in multiple industries. Currently serving as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Toptracer since June 2020, John specializes in showing the flight path of golf balls with comprehensive shot data. Previously, at Invent House AB, John developed innovative guitar bags resembling popular backpacks and established supplier relationships. John's prior roles include Mechanical Design Engineer at Better Shelter, where contributions spanned concept development to mass production, and a design engineer position at Looklet AB, focusing on automatic photography machines. John also gained valuable experience at Scania Group, working on exterior design and component problem-solving for future trucks. An educator in CAD and product development at KTH, John further enhanced expertise through a Clinical Innovation Fellowship at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, focusing on medical innovation and biodesign.

The company was founded in 2006 with the goal to enrich the experience of watching golf on TV. By developing a unique software capable of tracking the flight of a golf ball in a camera feed, and adding graphics to make this visible on screen, Toptracer has achieved this. Several of the world’s largest broadcasting companies expressed interest, andsoon Toptracer was being featured in TV coverage from the biggest golf tournaments in the world, such as The Open Championship and the Ryder Cup.
