Joshua Friell

Joshua Friell serves as the Chief Research Scientist at The Toro Company, where responsibilities include directing a team focused on the development of sensor and decision support technologies, as well as analyzing machine data to enhance reporting and visualization of carbon emissions in landscape maintenance. Prior experience includes a role as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota, where Joshua developed optimized turfgrass mixtures for various environments and established updated standards for salt-tolerant mixtures in Minnesota. Earlier, as a Senior Design Engineer at The Toro Company, work involved conducting experimental analyses and developing custom data processing programs that streamlined design processes. Joshua holds a Ph.D. in Applied Plant Sciences from the University of Minnesota, alongside a Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University and the University of Minnesota, respectively.
