Matthew Hickey has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of virtual design and construction (VDC). Matthew started their career at CHA Consulting in 2016 as a Senior Engineering Designer/Technician, where they worked on various projects and produced detailed electrical drawings utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, GIS, and visual design software. Matthew also assisted in creating a company-wide Electrical Revit SOP and managed a Revit family database for the electrical group.
In 2014, Matthew joined Total Facility Solutions as a Project Engineer, where they acted as a liaison between the design and field teams, and assisted in the planning, management, and administration of multiple projects. Matthew was responsible for coordinating, organizing, and tracking project information, materials, and correspondence.
In 2015, Matthew transitioned to the role of BIM Modeler/Detailer (Electrical) at Total Facility Solutions. Matthew contributed to various job scopes, including basebuild, PLS, spec gas, and tool install projects. Matthew modeled and produced detailed 3D electrical drawings using Revit MEP and AutoCAD Fabrication, conducted site scans for modeling and coordination, and utilized Navisworks Manage for multi-trade coordination and clash detection.
From 2017 to 2018, Matthew served as the VDC Tool Install Lead (Mechanical) at Total Facility Solutions. Matthew attended coordination and design meetings, managed a team of designers and detailers, and ensured compliance with VDC site standards. Matthew also created and managed model files for internal use and multi-trade coordination.
In 2018, Matthew joined DPS Group Global as a BIM Coordinator, where they were responsible for coordinating BIM activities and supporting project teams. Matthew later became the BIM Manager, overseeing BIM processes and workflows.
Most recently, Matthew returned to Total Facility Solutions in 2020 as the Director of Virtual Design and Construction. In this role, they lead the VDC department, manages VDC standards, and oversees virtual design and construction initiatives.
Matthew Hickey attended ITT Technical Institute-Albany from 2012 to 2014, where they obtained an Associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology/Technician, General. Prior to that, they attended Hudson Valley Community College from 1998 to 1999, however, no degree or field of study information was provided.
